- Similar to PWR assemblies but with larger diameter rods/pellets (10.6 mm vs 8.2 mm)
- Different type of Zircaloy used for cladding
- Contains a central water-filled rod
- Typically an 8 x 8 rod array
- The whole assembly is encased in a Zircaloy shroud to confine the flow of water
