Decommissioning is a complex process involving termination of the operational phase, carrying out D&D operations and finally transferring the site to unrestricted use. Although the hazards associated with decommissioning are inherently lower than those of the operating phase, the involvement of various regulatory bodies makes decommissioning activities a very management-intensive process.
