Important: There is a common misconception about the meaning of the word “decommissioning”. Quite often, it is used to refer only to Decontamination and Dismantling (D&D). This is inaccurate. The word decommissioning incorporates the entire operation — from the point of termination of useful life, the D&D operation, delicensing actions, as well as the management of radioactive waste.
