Lesson 6 6.12 Waste Treatment and Conditioning

Proper segregation at source is essential for efficient waste management:

  • Separate wastes according to half-lives (long-lived vs short-lived dictate disposal routes)
  • Keep small volumes of HLW separate from larger volumes of LLW
  • Separate wastes containing organics and complexing agents
  • Segregate biodegradable, bio-toxic and chemo-toxic materials as they need separate treatment
